ok, so i thought i'd make a few more lists than just the standard top albums lists...
top 5 shows (attended) of 2008
5. the national/the breeders/natalie portman
i was late on liking the national. the studio albums don't really do it for me half the time. BUT live they are extremely badass for older musicians. i don't like the breeders so ill skip them. natalie portman is one of my favorite actresses, so seeing her in person was cool.
4. Why? @ MPMF
why? of why? is one third of what i consider one of the best things to happen to music ever--cLOUDDEAD. why? as a whole is pretty different than cLOUDDEAD, but amazing still. but even more amazing live. (though i am disappointed cold lunch [albert brown mortuary dumpster dive remix] was not played live)
3. vampire weekend
as one of three hundred people who saw him at the gypsy hut, the small venue was perfect for seeing them live. and they were selling the albums themselves. which i think is cool
2. matt and kim/best fwends
some of the most fun i've had at a concert. crowd surfing (as lame as that sounds), hanging out with mike and eric, dance party with matt and kim afterwards, best fwends being as epic as they were...crazinesssssss.
1. the dodos / au
so au as an album is completely different than au as a concert. but both are amazing. it was their last show together in a small venue in columbus, so everybody was having a good time. the dodos came out and accompanied au on their final song of the set: are animals. and i went with andrew and maggie which was also a lot of fun, especially since everyone else bailed.
ok well i thought i'd have more but i don't...so here is my top 5 albums
5. plants and animals - parc avenue
so this album really hit it with me and i really loved walking around listening to it as well as driving. best track imo: "À l'orée des bois"
4. the dodos - visiter
awesome songs to sing and dance to. i could stand in a room and imitate animals from the jungle while listening to this. especially to (best track imo) "red and purple"
3. why? - alopecia
if you can't rap its ok. because why? can for you and then you can learn by learning all the words to his songs and singing them while trying to stay awake going up to columbus. best track imo: "these few presidents"
2. dr. dog - fate
ok, so this album was not on too many top lists. and i guess to their fans its not anyone's favorite album. but i love the feel of this album and the old 60s sound and the soul and the rock and the catchiest damn choruses ever. best track imo: "the old days"
1. fleet foxes - fleet foxes
those harmonies plus those drums plus those guitars. daaaannngg. best track imo: "ragged wood"
